Custom Chess Boards

Boards here range from exotic woods such as kingwood, ebony, maple burl, walnut and koa to art-glass mosaic and dichroic glass boards, carbon fiber boards and wood-burned designs. Chess tables come with drawers for the pieces and, in some listings, matching chairs, and some tops are reversible. Themed sets draw on fantasy, music, martial arts and tiki styles, and there are rustic log sets, a chess board that doubles as a humidor, and boards for other games such as Arimaa.

What sets the price

A listing's price is usually a starting point. Half of the listings here are priced between about $420 and $1,250, with a median near $690, and one in ten is priced at $3,000 or more. Size, wood or glass, inlay and artwork, and whether it's a board or a full table set the price of a commission.

• A board or a table, and the room it will sit in.
• Woods, colors or a theme, and any names or dates to include.

Describe the board with the materials, size, budget and date you have in mind, and makers who do this work send proposals.
