This stool is from a design by Wayne Barton that replicates a 15th Century European hearth stool. It is extensively carved with intricate designs typical of the period. The stool is made entirely of butternut, a member of the walnut family. The carved center trestle features through mortise and tenon joinery. The hole in the top can be used as a 'handle' to carry the stool around. This stool is 18" H x 24" L. It is finished with many coats of oil to provide a deep, glossy finish that is very smooth to the touch. This is a really special pieceā¦one that will draw comments from anyone who visits your home.

It is refreshing and deeply satisfying to purchase something that is made by a craftsman especially for you. A piece of furniture that can be passed down from one generation to another is special. Jim Reedy Custom Woodworking is a one-person shop that makes beautiful furniture in a variety of styles. I use only fine quality solid wood and employ hand carving, traditional joinery and extensive use of hand tools to create my furniture. My pieces aren't inexpensive, but I have found that the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

From the proposal, which was quick and priced right (and included a computer graphic) through keeping contact re: progress, up to delivery of a table which was exactly to my specifications.
It was a pleasure dealing with Custom Made, and especially Jim Reedy, who reminds me of a 'Vermont craftsman and gentleman'.
I have already recommended this site to friends.
