Mahogany Sheraton Secretary

$19,000

Shown in Fine Woodworking #190 in April of 2007 and exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum, this Secretary is an amalgam of different designs from the golden period of Sheraton case pieces, 1790-1810. With a tambour section large enough for contemporary file folders and standard envelopes, the secretary is also a functional piece of furniture designed to be used in every day living. The sloped front unfolds to provide a work surface, while the shelving in the bookcase above is adjustable and capable of holding large volumes or small objects. Casework in the Sheraton Style, with detailed veneers, curved muntins and reeded or fluted legs, is a specialty. The case is naturally finished mahogany, with birds-eye maple drawer front panels and holly and ebony inlays. The finials are hand cast in England.
