Rocking Chair
I think it's a rite of passage for every American craftsman to create their own Sam-Maloof-inspired rocking chair. Here is mine, crafted out of solid walnut. I can't remember a project that was as interesting to make. There are almost no straight lines on the entire piece, everything is sculpted into a seamless organic whole. The chair looks and feels like it's alive, which seems fitting for a rocking chair. Sam Maloof recently passed away. He was a hero of mine, both for his skill and for the man he was. Crafting this chair makes me feel like a child standing in my father's oversized shoes.

While I have a design style all my own, my influences are from the Arts and Crafts, Shaker, and Asian aesthetics.
