Solid Cypress Storage Armoire

$1,500

This Cypress Armoir is part of a bedroom suite custom designed from the ground up with my clients. They were looking for very simple lines and a dark color for their master bedroom. I was able to get some very nice black walnut to work with as well as some interesting mildly figured wood for the end panels. The maple chest was built to compliment the other pieces, but in a contrasting color to set apart the furniture in a spare bedroom. The cypress armoire was a special wood choice by my customer for use as a storage piece in the master bathroom. The armoire features all solid wood construction-even the ship-lapped back and solid 7/8" thick shelves. The door and side panels are all resawn and book matched to create an interesting pattern and make the most of the wood. The cypress color is beautiful and the wood is naturally resistant to water damage-a great feature in a busy bathroom. All the case pieces feature dovetailed drawers with hidden under mount ball bearing drawer slides with a nice soft-close feature. The pieces are finished with multiple layers of wipe on polyurethane to highlight the figure of the wood and provide maximum protection. If you are interested in these pieces or something like them, feel free to contact me, and I would be happy to give you a price quote and discuss the many options available.

My name is Aaron Maes. I'm an artist, designer and master furniture maker. My work is known for its quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

My formal training is in studio art. I like to draw and paint, but in school I quickly gravitated to sculpture in wood and metal.

The physical process, the immediate feedback and the noise and smells and dust-the overall experience really engaged me creatively. The transition to furniture making was a natural one. I have always appreciated the art of finely crafted furniture, the beauty of the wood itself and the design challenges involved. It also lends itself well to my perfectionist nature as I strive to create art in a functional and beautiful piece.

My work is based on my love for the craft. I especially appreciate the design of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the simple lines of Shaker furniture, but I also thrive on the challenge to create a beautiful and well engineered piece that compliments an existing space or existing furniture.
