Walnut Live Edge Slab Conference Table

$4,500

This custom designed Black Walnut Live Edge slab conference table was built to meet some specific needs for my client in his new law office. It can be used as two separate long tables or put together as a bigger conference table either joined close together with a custom steel joining strip, or with a steel tray that can hold rocks, pebbles or other interesting objects to create a truly unique meeting table. When assembled as a conference table, the two halves are held together with custom polished steel pins that are removed with a special rare-earth magnet with a hand turned matching walnut handle. All of the slabs that make up this table are from one large black walnut tree with some very interesting figure and beautiful deep color, as well as a few shotgun pellets that were embedded in the trunk many years ago. Bowtie inlays stabilize the big cracks as well as provide a nice design element. The table is hand finished in multiple layers of oil polyurethane to highlight the figure of the wood and provide maximum protection. If you are interested in this piece or something like it, feel free to contact me, and I would be happy to provide you with a price quote and discuss the many custom options available.

My name is Aaron Maes. I'm an artist, designer and master furniture maker. My work is known for its quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

My formal training is in studio art. I like to draw and paint, but in school I quickly gravitated to sculpture in wood and metal.

The physical process, the immediate feedback and the noise and smells and dust-the overall experience really engaged me creatively. The transition to furniture making was a natural one. I have always appreciated the art of finely crafted furniture, the beauty of the wood itself and the design challenges involved. It also lends itself well to my perfectionist nature as I strive to create art in a functional and beautiful piece.

My work is based on my love for the craft. I especially appreciate the design of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the simple lines of Shaker furniture, but I also thrive on the challenge to create a beautiful and well engineered piece that compliments an existing space or existing furniture.
