The Aron Kodesh, or Ark, is the cabinet used to hold the Torah Scrolls in a synagogue. This was designed for a chapel at Temple Israel in Portsmouth, NH. The design was inspired by photos of famous synagogues that columns on either side of their Aron Kodesh. I designed the Magen David into the Ionic capitals, made arches on the doors to be reminiscent of the tablets, and decorated the doors with incised letters representing the Ten Commandments. The inscription above, in Hebrew characters translates as "Let us behold the wonders of your teaching, and on the Ner Tamid, eternal light, The Lord said let there be light and there was light."
