Claro-Walnut Sofa Table With Glass Legs

KH Webb designed a contemporary home for this client and it was named 'Mountain Living' magazine's "Home of the Year" in 2010. I created a very large bar and countertop from Claro Walnut slabs, a room-sized wine rack, and three tables for this home: "Metal Chops Walnut", "Walnut Infinity Pool", and this table which adorns the grand entrance. The house is full of walnut, so we decided on a super-thick slab of Claro Walnut. The client had seen a similar table with plastic legs, which gave it a fake look, so we decided on real glass. An important note: I do not copy others' work; that is unethical. My designs may have elements similar to others', but they are my unique designs. This slab was ordered from California and it wasn't until I cut into the surface that worm tracks were revealed. Epoxy was used to fill the 'tunnels', ultimately giving the table top a dramatic depth and texture. The glass artist Mark Ditzler created a fused glass bartop for the home, so he was commissioned to cast the legs. 70 hours in the kiln resulted in clear slabs riddled with bubbles, which complemented the worm tracks perfectly.
