I was brought up with a fascination and deep appreciation for the cultures and hand crafts of the Native Americans. (For years I believed I was part Native American; though possible this is not likely.) The carvings of the northwest coastal Indians are particularly fabulous whether seen in a monumental totem pole or an intricately carved spoon. These beds portray the protective and fierce bear figure in the headboard and have further symbolic figures in each of the posts. The bed bolt covers are also carved faces. I appropriately carved from western red cedar, but the black stained rails are of poplar for more strength where it is required.
Paula Garbarino Custom Furniture
I seek to make elegant furniture featuring charming marquetry and time-honored craftsmanship. I design and build for clients to suit their practical needs and aesthetic tastes. I have been a woodworker for over 30 years and a furniture maker for over 20. My training was formal and in traditional design and construction of 18th and 19th century styles. I continue to work in those periods but am also pleased to accommodate more contemporary looks. Please visit my website to see my entire portfolio.
