Jarrah Burl
Another great Australian burl, Jarrah, a species of Eucalyptus unique to the south west of Western Australia, is a spectacular hardwood known for its remarkable durability, extreme density and warm, rich colors. Its distinctive blend of beauty and practicality lends it to use for both elegant furniture and innovative construction. Jarrah is an excellent choice for everything from tables and desks, to countertops and cabinets to headboards and doors. Jarrah trees are also unusual in that they have a lignotuber, a large underground swelling which stores carbohydrates and allows young trees to regenerate after a fire. Because they are deep-rooted, as much as 40 meters (130 ft), jarrah trees are drought resistant and able to draw water from great depths during dry periods. I've sold thousands of pieces in every continent in the world, from simple dishes to elaborate hollow lidded vessels. In my work I have used many different types of domestic and exotic woods of which I have over a hundred different types in my shop.
