"Flagship" Dining Table In Walnut
This walnut table is made of all colorado grown and milled black walnut. The top is a two-piece slab joined down the center with an "S"-shaped seam. The tenons on the trestle are real wedged through tenons made in order to secure the seams between the opposing pedestal legs. The joints are handcut. I made the lines diverging and appealing with subtle, yet sufficient curves. The price on this table varies mostly by the choice of wood (standard lumber to highly figured and large slabs). The size and addition of leaves also affect the price.

We were looking for a statement piece for the master that was unique using high quality wood for a mountain home, yet refined to work with the "mountain modern" design concept. It's absolutely beautiful and Austin was a pleasure to work with. I was so pleased he is working on other projects. Photos will come later once everything is completed.

For Flagship Table5.0I can personally recommend Austin Aaron of Dancing Grains Woodworks as a highly skilled craftsman with an impeccable sense of design. Recently my wife and I purchased a contemporary condominium in Boulder Colorado, and we wanted a “live edge” dining room table to add a Western mountain element to our furnishings. A mutual friend introduced us to Austin who immediately understood what we were after. He suggested that we go look at raw lumber together and recommended a source that he knew had recently harvested some 100 year old Walnut trees on a historic Boulder County property. We spent about two hours looking through the output of three trees before settling on three slabs (two for the top; one for the base) with beautiful figuring and coloration. Austin suggested that we join the top pieces end to end rather than in a traditional “book match” to enhance the shape and interest of the entire table. He then sketched a trestle base with beautiful curved legs in proportion to the substantial top, and he commenced the execution of the project. The result is shown in the accompanying photograph, taken after the table was carefully installed in our dining room. Having spent two days at Sam and Freda Maloof’s home in Alta Loma, California in the 1970’s when I picked up my rocking chair, I could tell that Austin’s joinery and finish work were superb. Most important, however, is the “line” of the table taken in its entirety and the balance between the base and the top; it is “gutsy” and substantial, but not overbuilt or “clunky” in any way. We have subsequently recommended him to two families who ordered similar tables and we have commissioned Austin to design a coffee table out of a slab of Myrtle that he located in Denver.
