Walnut Sofa Table With Curly Maple Detail
This sofa table is made from black walnut lumber with curly maple detail in the drawer and corner splines. The legs are tapered on the two insides for a more delicate appearance. It's overall measurements as shown are 54 in. wide by 28.5 in. high by 16 in. deep. The finish is a Danish oil with an overcoat of polyurethane. This table can be made in several different variations. It can be made without the lower shelf; legs could be tapered on all four sides; the beading near the top of the legs could also be made in an accent wood; the drawer could be eliminated: and the finish could be either a urethane or an oil finish. Any measurements can also be customized.

Batterman's Custom Woodworking
Dean Batterman is the owner/craftsman of Batterman's Custom Woodworking. Dean has been a woodworker for over 40 years and has owned this business since 1998. Dean has studied woodworking at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, ME and at the School for American Craftsmen in Rochester, NY. He has also studied furniture repair and refinishing with Bob Flexnor, a nationally known expert refinisher and author of "Understanding Wood Finishes".
We are located in the beautiful town of Bath, in Mid Coast Maine.
We design and build custom furniture using quality domestic hardwoods as well as exotic species. All designs are unique. We will work with the customer to include their preferences in design, wood species and finish. We also repair and refinish all types of wooden furniture, especially antiques.
We build a wide variety of custom cabinetry, including entertainment centers, bookcases, vanities and cabinets for special needs.
We build custom moldings and wainscotings, especially those no longer available for restoration of older homes.
We do woodturnings (bowls, vases, etc.) in a variety of woods.
We make many smaller craft items, wooden toys, and accessories.
Most woodworking projects are custom designed to meet your needs and preferences in terms of design, wood species, and finishing options.
All clear finished projects are hand rubbed for a furniture quality finish. Painted projects are primed and finished with two coats of paint.
We will provide free estimates on all projects.

Jun 16, 2015Dean is a fine craftsman and a true professional. He made a beautiful arts and crafts bench for my entryway to my specifications. He obviously enjoys woodworking and cares about quality because he crafted my bench as if he were making it for himself (and I could tell that he was proud of the finished product). He used high quality materials and took the time to choose the most beautiful wood with lovely grain. The finish was perfect and the design is just what I wanted -- a little bit art deco and a little bit vintage. Dean has high standards and makes furniture that is solid and will last. The bench is the perfect size for my entryway and quite functional (not just beautiful)! Dean is a great communicator too -- he answered all of my questions promptly and completely and even sent pictures! He delivered the bench on time, and I must say, there's no need to worry about any damage during shipping. Dean knows how to package furniture for safe shipping! Dec 22, 2014Dean created a beautiful double vanity for us in Cherry. For months we had been looking for just the perfect vanity for our future family bathroom but never were happy with the looks, functionality (e.g. too narrow drawers, wasted space under sinks, etc.), or price. Then we came across custommade.com, figured we will give it a try and chose Dean to build our dream vanity. The design process moved quickly since we had a photo of a similar vanity, and Dean's first set of technical drawings was spot on. He built the vanity in the promised time. The vanity is in Cherry and features soft-close doors and undermount, soft-close drawers. All drawers and doors were properly adjusted for squareness and proper closing. We decided to stain the vanity ourselves (yet to be done)because we had not decided on bathroom colors yet, and also to save some money. If we factor in staining, Dean's quote came in somewhat below semi-custom vanities for which we had gotten quotes, too (but still didn't like as much), which made the decision to pick him a no-brainer. In the future, we will almost certainly have some more furniture that needs to be built and we he will be the first person we will ask.
