The bookcase is made from walnut boards with their natural edge, and steel. The metal legs are notched into the ends of the boards the "float" between them. The natural edge of the walnut was left in place to contrast with the rigid straight lines of the steel. The legs extend past the top shelf to lean books against. There are no exposed fasteners, but the legs and shelves can be separated for shipping.

Objective:
The goal is to create unique furniture that is rooted in functionality, visually intriguing while displaying honesty of material and a bit of whimsy. To craft pieces that are viewed and used on multiple levels; work that melds with its surroundings while possessing the impact to stand apart. First appearances are of clean, simple objects. A closer look develops into layers of discovery about connections, tectonics, and the character of materials. Each element is continually edited throughout the process to insure every part contributes to the strength of the whole aesthetically, structurally, and conceptually.
Method:
Germinal to each design is an idea of the unique characteristics of materials, used to inspire the formation of the piece. If it is wood, steel, glass, textile or anything, the aim is to take advantage of the strengths and inherent beauty of each material. The act of construction is an ever-changing progression adapting to the challenges and opportunities inherent in manipulating raw materials into a final result.
Philosophy:
It is important to use materials in a sustainable manner. Selection of “green” products is equally important as how they are being used. Each piece of furniture is build with the idea it must stand the test of time to respect the materials from which it was formed.
