Salvaged Fir Farm Table With Metal Legs

$1,250

This rustic dining table is made from a salvaged Douglas fir and industrial tube steel legs. The wood has tons of character from saw marks and knots to some large cracks. In fact some of the cracks go all the way though the top, see the second photo. This table is very sturdy with the 4" square tube steel legs, and a top that is over 1 1/2" thick. The table seats 6 comfortably, and can fit 8 friends around when needed. The legs for the table are made from tube steel, the welds have been ground down and the rest of the metal has the original mill finish. The legs have been clear coated to protect the raw metal. The wood has been sealed Danish oil and wax to show off the natural feel of the wood. The dimensions of the table are 76" long, 38" wide, and 30" tall.

Objective:

The goal is to create unique furniture that is rooted in functionality, visually intriguing while displaying honesty of material and a bit of whimsy. To craft pieces that are viewed and used on multiple levels; work that melds with its surroundings while possessing the impact to stand apart. First appearances are of clean, simple objects. A closer look develops into layers of discovery about connections, tectonics, and the character of materials. Each element is continually edited throughout the process to insure every part contributes to the strength of the whole aesthetically, structurally, and conceptually.

Method:

Germinal to each design is an idea of the unique characteristics of materials, used to inspire the formation of the piece. If it is wood, steel, glass, textile or anything, the aim is to take advantage of the strengths and inherent beauty of each material. The act of construction is an ever-changing progression adapting to the challenges and opportunities inherent in manipulating raw materials into a final result.

Philosophy:

It is important to use materials in a sustainable manner. Selection of “green” products is equally important as how they are being used. Each piece of furniture is build with the idea it must stand the test of time to respect the materials from which it was formed.
