Wrap Coffee Table - Urban Harvested Russian Olive

$700+
4.9(11 reviews)

This bold and unique coffee table is made from solid Russian Olive boards from a tree sustainably harvested from an urban area. The Russian Olive tree produces beautiful wood, but the tree is actually an invasive species so it is often cut down to restore indigenous vegetation. The top which wraps down the sides of the table has been paired with channel bar steel legs The mill finish has been left on the steel which shows the character of the material. The welds have been ground smooth and the steel has been clear coated.. The wood had been finished with PolyWhey, a finish made from cheese making by-products. The piece is 17" tall, 52" wide, and 21" deep.

Objective:

The goal is to create unique furniture that is rooted in functionality, visually intriguing while displaying honesty of material and a bit of whimsy. To craft pieces that are viewed and used on multiple levels; work that melds with its surroundings while possessing the impact to stand apart. First appearances are of clean, simple objects. A closer look develops into layers of discovery about connections, tectonics, and the character of materials. Each element is continually edited throughout the process to insure every part contributes to the strength of the whole aesthetically, structurally, and conceptually.

Method:

Germinal to each design is an idea of the unique characteristics of materials, used to inspire the formation of the piece. If it is wood, steel, glass, textile or anything, the aim is to take advantage of the strengths and inherent beauty of each material. The act of construction is an ever-changing progression adapting to the challenges and opportunities inherent in manipulating raw materials into a final result.

Philosophy:

It is important to use materials in a sustainable manner. Selection of “green” products is equally important as how they are being used. Each piece of furniture is build with the idea it must stand the test of time to respect the materials from which it was formed.

Ben did an amazing job on our custom kitchen table. We were looking for a table that would fit nicely with our casual Colorado style new home and he nailed it. People constantly give us compliments on the table. We absolutely LOVE the table. Cannot recommend Ben highly enough. We have worked with many custom furniture builders in the past and Ben is amazing.

Ben crafted 2 superb bookcases for me, to the exact specifications. The project was on time, communication was great, and the finished product is top notch. The packing of the bookcases was incredible and the assembly instructions and part labeling great. I would definitely work with Ben on another project without hesitation.
