Inset I-Beam Dinine Table And Matching Bench
This amazing table is made from one singe slab of figured maple with I-beam butterflies inset into the top to span the cracks. The slab of wood has a ton of character including spalting, wave grain, and bark inclusions. The deep voids in the table have been filled with a non-toxic epoxy so that the table is easy to use and clean. The matching bench was made from a jacket board from the same tree so the wood matches perfectly. The legs for the table are made from mild steel flat bar. Each leg extends up flush with the top of the table. The metal retains it's mill finish providing an industrial contrast to the natural top. The table top is finished with a semi-gloss finish made from cheese making byproducts called PolyWhey, which is both non-toxic and durable. The legs are sealed with a satin lacquer to seal the raw metal. The dimensions of the table are 82" long, 38" wide, and 30" tall. and the bench is 52" long, 16" deep, and 18" tall.

Objective:
The goal is to create unique furniture that is rooted in functionality, visually intriguing while displaying honesty of material and a bit of whimsy. To craft pieces that are viewed and used on multiple levels; work that melds with its surroundings while possessing the impact to stand apart. First appearances are of clean, simple objects. A closer look develops into layers of discovery about connections, tectonics, and the character of materials. Each element is continually edited throughout the process to insure every part contributes to the strength of the whole aesthetically, structurally, and conceptually.
Method:
Germinal to each design is an idea of the unique characteristics of materials, used to inspire the formation of the piece. If it is wood, steel, glass, textile or anything, the aim is to take advantage of the strengths and inherent beauty of each material. The act of construction is an ever-changing progression adapting to the challenges and opportunities inherent in manipulating raw materials into a final result.
Philosophy:
It is important to use materials in a sustainable manner. Selection of “green” products is equally important as how they are being used. Each piece of furniture is build with the idea it must stand the test of time to respect the materials from which it was formed.
