Plywood, foam, fiberglass, paint, Formica. This piece was inspired by a famous ancient greek sculpture depicting a priest and his two sons entangled with a giant serpent from the sea (thought to be carved by the Laocoon group). The figures were carved out of architectural styrofoam, backed by plywood, then the entire piece was sprayed with fiberglass to achieve a hard, durable surface. The sideboard surface is Formica.

I make studio furniture and lamps in a woodshop in Oakland, CA. The majority of my work is made on speculation. I am inspired by nature, as well as my urban surroundings, and the simple drive to physically create objects. I employ many materials besides wood, such as, fiberglass, brass, copper, laminate, PVC, and sometimes even cement. My work is often painted, giving it a very contemporary look.
