Old world elegance meets 21st century technology in this elegantly tailored cabinet commissioned by NY Times Best Selling Author John Saul. This beautifully simple Biedermeir cabinet is essentially a totally self-contained wireless home office. The central niche comes complete with faux marble columns of spalted maple, an inlaid compass rose in the center of a Lilliputian-scale parquet floor which folds back to reveal a laptop computer. The paneled door in the back opens to reveal a trompe l'oeil bas relief suite of "rooms" illuminated by dollhouse lighting. Seven secret compartments are hidden throughout, some accessed by special tools made just for that purpose. The cabinet is constructed from a wide variety of materials including West African etimoe, gaboon ebony, spalted maple, East Indian satinwood, mastodon ivory, imbuya, Honduran mahogany and Amboyna burl from SE Asia, one of the world's rarest and most expensive burls. The piece breaks down into two sections for ease of shipping.
