These staircase newel post finials were commissioned by a psychologist and represent dream archetypes. The lion is for the psychologist, the bull elephant for her husband, and the grizzley bear for me. Each was carved in white oak after weeks of studying live critters to catch nuances of expression and muscle movement. Years later, the house was sold and the animals moved to the new residence and placed on pedestals to be appreciated solely as sculpture.
