One of the simplest ways to add storage or architectural interest to your home is to make use of wall space with customized shelving. Capitalizing on the space in your walls, between the studs, is a great way to add a place to display books or a favorite collection, as seen in the mirrored shelving unit below. Similarly, we used a 9″ space at the end of a kitchen island to incorporate a lit display for a unique touch. Sometimes during remodeling, a space can lose its original purpose, as was the case when an addition was added to an older home and two windows had to be blocked off. Rather than drywalling over them, we took advantage of the space and added shelves with a rustic crackle finished background in the kitchen, and created a beautiful display case with glass doors in the office.
