This kitchen remodel was done in New Haven, VT. While we made new maple doors and drawer fronts for the existing kitchen cabinets, a walk-in pantry got most of the attention, with all new custom cabinets, countertops, closet space, and wine storage racks. The pantry was a bit of a funky space, with weird angles and exposed framing and wiring. First, everything was rewired and drywall was put up. Then we made the most of the tight space, listing everything that needed to fit there (including a refrigerator, wine collection, pots and pans, telephone, microwave, dishes, vacuum cleaner, etc.). With lots of planning, using 3-D drafting software, we found a layout that accommodated everything and went to work making the custom cabinetry. We used maple, all-wood construction, shaker style doors and drawer fronts, soft-close drawer hardware, and made mullioned glass doors with removable glass for easy cleaning. The budget was a bit tight, so we made countertops from maple plywood that matched the existing countertops in the main kitchen (the idea is to update the counters at a later date).
