The Un-Named Box

$500

Another Asian influenced box, this time using a totally different type of wood that just so happens to come from Asia. Black Palm isn't really a wood, it's a grass, and has all the properties of compressed grass. It comes from a palm tree indigenous to South East Asia, mainly Myanmar (Burma). The wood is extremely difficult to work with as it splinters easily until finished. Hard to work with, but the end result is worth it. The other woods are: Black & White Ebony, Holly and Maple The stringing is holly and is purely decorative; the center ornament is a dice of a red dragon from a roll playing game. To offset the rough texture, this box needed two coats of urethane, 7 coats of hand rubbed oil and three coats of English wax. The size is 10.5" x 6" x 4.5"

After years of being an art director for magazines and advertising agencies, my passion has evolved from beautiful print work to beautiful woodwork.

I have become a creator of "one-of-a-kind" Gallery Quality Jewelry Boxes that I believe are more akin to functional art than just a container to hold jewelry.

All my boxes are made using unique grained, imported wood along with brass or stainless steel details, all drawers or trays lined with leather or suede and occasionally, semi-precious gemstones.

Sometimes, hours are spending deciding which woods work together best. From the eyes of a perfectionist, my boxes do not work unless I feel the wood is the perfect choice.

I feel that the best results are achieved by the needs of what I want a specific boxes’ character or personality to be.

It's my belief that each box must reflect my enjoyment in its creation and that this same feeling has to be passed on the final owner.
