The "Eye" Book - A "Digital" Jewelry Box

$350

"Apple, Eat Your Heart Out" This box/"book" was made based on the request (one of the few I accept) to create a single large compartment box that resembled a book. The client, being an avid reader, a computer and e-book "geek", and someone who lives on her iphone, just cried out for this whimsical interpretation of an iconic ibook was the perfect candidate for this wooden interpretation. The box is made of Cocobolo, Maple with black veneer "stringing" to mimic pages, a Dragon's Vein Cabochon Agate stone to "make" the eye, along with an ebony pillowed plug (stolen from the Greene & Greene style" and Federal style Holly stringing on the "cover to tie it all together. The bottom of the lid "cover" consists of book matched Spalted Tamarind. The bottom of the interior box is black leather surrounded by a frame of Bocote and brass pins. Not only a "fun" piece, but a useful one-compartment jewel/assorted stuff box. Finished size is 9.5" x 6"x 3". Finished in 5 coats of Watco's Natural Danish Oil, all applied with ascending grits of wet/dry abrasive paper, and topped off with two coats of Liberon clear paste wax.

After years of being an art director for magazines and advertising agencies, my passion has evolved from beautiful print work to beautiful woodwork.

I have become a creator of "one-of-a-kind" Gallery Quality Jewelry Boxes that I believe are more akin to functional art than just a container to hold jewelry.

All my boxes are made using unique grained, imported wood along with brass or stainless steel details, all drawers or trays lined with leather or suede and occasionally, semi-precious gemstones.

Sometimes, hours are spending deciding which woods work together best. From the eyes of a perfectionist, my boxes do not work unless I feel the wood is the perfect choice.

I feel that the best results are achieved by the needs of what I want a specific boxes’ character or personality to be.

It's my belief that each box must reflect my enjoyment in its creation and that this same feeling has to be passed on the final owner.
