Top Ten (Or 13 In This Case) Custom Mini Library/Bookshelf

Handmade in Chicago, Illinois by Dilettante Studios

$1,163.67+

This series of shelves is customized to a particular collection of books selected by the patron/client. Two different versions are pictured here. Each piece of scrap wood is planed to the thickness of the book, then cut to length so that the tops and bindings of the books-rather than the bottoms and backs-are flush with each other. Each book has its specific place on the shelf. It speaks to the specificity of each book, and how individual, singular and unique our relationships with books can be. Made of naturally weathered wood, waxed and polished.

Dilettante Studios (DS) is a small, full-service design/build studio specializing in hand-crafted furniture, cabinets, carpentry, built-ins, environments, installations and art fabrication, using primarily found, inherited, re-purposed and salvaged materials. We also work with virgin materials when necessary, but do our best to go second-hand whenever possible, as both a principle and an invited opportunity for adaptive design. We hope you will work with us for our expertise as much as our commitments to waste reduction and creativity.
