Sculpted Couple Portrait In Black & White
Portrait of couple in rowboat rendered from black and white photo. The figures are modeled by hand in white earthenware clay and attached to molded clay frame of my own design. It measures 8"x 8". It is hand painted primarily in underglazes and fired to 1950F. A satin matt glaze and a clear gloss glaze are hand brushed on and fired to 1850 degrees F. A small amount of black overglaze is used to sharpen up details and fired to 1300F. It is wired to hang.

Custom hand-sculpted portraits of people and/or pets in porcelain or white clay. They can be fully 3-dimensional figures or scenes in relief.
Working from your photos I can do realistic portraits of dogs, cats, or you. I make each piece by hand. Smaller figures are sculpted in high-fired porcelain, whereas larger pieces are sculpted in low-fired white clay. Each piece goes through 3 firings. All the colors are durable fired glazes (2380F) or overglazes (1300F) .

Dec 18, 2015This artist has been wonderful to work with. My project was a ceramic replica of my closest and dearest friend, my dog Jack. She did the entire piece from pictures! She was very careful to ask me questions along the way to make sure the likeness was right. I am just so impressed with this artist. I have a feeling her work will be priceless at some point in her career... the likeness of my Jack is already priceless to me. There are many great artists at Custommade, but Laura is exceptionally gifted. I just couldn't be happier with the entire process!
