Our small woodworking company started when we bought our first home over a decade ago and were doing standard small home renovations ourselves. At that time most of what I knew was taught by my grandfather who was a contractor and built small homes, decks, additions, renovations, etc.
Once most of the major renovations were done in our home, my transition to building custom furniture began. I'm completely self-taught in fine woodworking; I've read countless books and magazines, attended classes and workshops, watched videos, listened to podcasts and have had lots of practice. As with most small businesses, our friends and family were requesting that I create pieces for their homes and this led to more practice and eventually building commission pieces for the general public.
That's where we are today… Located in the greater Chattanooga, TN area specializing in designing and manufacturing custom, handcrafted, heirloom pieces of furniture.
Most of the furniture pieces that are made by us are designed per the client's specifications. Most of the time the design process begins with an inspirational photo or photos of design(s) or style(s) you like. Once I have an idea of the piece, a 3-dimensional drawing is generated in a CAD program to help refine specific design details and features.

For End Grain Cutting Board4.8I am extremely happy with the cutting board Lucas of Clark Wood Creations made for me. I had specific materials and dimensions in mind, and while the resulting board was more expensive than a similar board on his online store, I have the exact dimensions and aspect ratio that I wanted with the material that I needed, and for all that the price was really a non-factor.
His materials are also first-rate: the end-grain maple is hard and tight, and it arrived with a good coating of food-grade oil. It came and has remained dead flat with zero wobbles, and it provides the perfect cutting surface. For those who have never used end-grain boards, they will spoil you for anything else. They are self-healing, gentle on knives, and while it's not a big deal, having one does mark you as a serious denizen of the kitchen.
Dealing with Lucas was a breeze. He was responsive, easy to communicate with, answered questions clearly, and would start only when he had all the information he needed. His product was delivered a few days earlier than I expected, and it came double boxed and properly protected. Very professional, and I would definitely recommend him for any custom woodwork.
