Shoe Bench From Salvaged Construction Scraps
In Hawaii, it's customary to remove one's shoes before entering someone's home. This bench provides handy story that keeps rain off the shoes, as well as a comfortable place to sit--important as you turn 50 and over. It would be useful in any climate where a bench just outside the door would appreciated. Materials are a cut-off end of a 4 x 12 glue-laminated structural beam and scraps of ipe from a deck. The seat is contoured. There is no finish on the ipe since this wood doesn't take finish products well outdoors. The seat is finished in linseed oil. It's 18.5 inches high, 34.5 inches long and 12 inches deep. A version of it could be done to almost any length. It is one of two projects from the same pile of scraps.
