The client works in a house in Cambridge, MA that has been repurposed for mental care offices (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc.). The mail was coming through a standard mail slot next to the side door. She needed a locked container for incoming mail. The mail should not be seen by anyone other than the mental health professionals. I designed and built this box to fulfill the client's needs. It has since garnered rave reviews from all who use it. The box was made from solid white oak. The box was designed to go with its surroundings in a late Victorian house. The joinery was almost completely box joints. The top is attached with Euro-type hinges set to close slowly (there was concern that a slamming lid might harm an ongoing session). It contains a brass lock opened by reproducible keys. On the right of the top you will notice a strip of wood. It was placed there to keep the top from hitting the window sill above it. It is mounted a little off the bench top to line up with the mail slot. Dimensions: 13" high x 19" long x 12" wide Finish: Gel stain to give it that "Arts & Crafts" look 3 coats rubbed-on poly

For Front Porch RebuildI hired Paul Norman of SherpaDog Renovations to rebuild a large enclosed front porch which had been destroyed by carpenter ants! I was pleased by the variety of cost effective redesign options Paul offered. In the end I chose to add some ornament to my Victorian home. He replaced the exterior plain shingles with scalloped ones, designed a diamond pattern (instead of the common basket weave) for the exterior skirt of the porch, added wainscoting under the interior windows, built a beautiful wooden ceiling and installed casement windows. I was thrilled with the results. Paul's attention to detail and fine carpentry skills resulted in a porch much admired by my neighbors and friends. I recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, conscientious and creative carpenter. I would definitely hire him again.
