"Angels Lead You" Patient Room Window, Mercy Hospice, Scranton Pa

"Angels Lead You" Patient Room Window, Mercy Hospice, Scranton Pa

$2,500

Inspiration for this design came from knowledge that the woman in whose memory it was commissioned collected representations of angels and from common beliefs about the roles of angels in human life. Bible stories tell of angels carrying messages from God and ministering to human beings. Catholic liturgical prayers call upon angels to greet the dying: "Hasten to meet her, angels of the Lord! Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High"(Song of Farewell). To convey angels as spiritual beings without human bodies, their shapes in the window are ambiguous. Colors and lines interlace and the angels' hair and garments, if that is what they are, appear to float. Their faces, which do not have features, are made of neodymium glass which changes color under different light conditions and reflects light at night. Since installation in a patient room, staff and relatives have reported that patients and family feel special comfort. We, the artists, pray that angels minister to each person who stays in that room, guide those who provide care, and comfort those who love them. The window is made of German mouth-blown glass, hand-poured opalescent glass from Connellsville, Pennsylvania, and lead came.

We are a husband-wife team who design and create stained glass windows, artful stained glass objects, and functional fused glass for homes, businesses, and public spaces. For more than thirty-five years we have been creating windows, glass panels, and light fixtures tailored to specific sites. Now we also offer kiln-formed glass. We love working with mouth-blown and handmade glass because of its rich beauty, and our delight in the glass is shown through innovative design and excellent fabrication in lead and copper foil techniques as well as fusing and slumping.

Whether you desire an architectural installation, accessories like a lamp or light vessel, a piece of stained glass art for your personal collection, colorful tableware, or a very special gift, we can create something original. Client needs and interests are central to our design and fabrication process. While it is advantageous to discuss a window project before new construction, we also fabricate to fit existing windows.
