"Thanksgiving For New Life" Butterfly Window

$2,800

To honor a child with disabilities and thank a school for the progress he had made, parents commissioned us to make this window for the reception area of what was then known as the Crippled Children's Hospital and School in Sioux Falls SD. They intended their donation to inspire hope in other parents and children. The window pictures a Monarch butterfly newly emerged from a cocoon, a symbol of new life. Made entirely of English streaky and German mouth-blown glass, the window makes good use of varying characteristics of "antique" glass such as striations in some glasses and seediness in others. We used traditional lead technique to fabricate this window in two sections which fit together when installed.

We are a husband-wife team who design and create stained glass windows, artful stained glass objects, and functional fused glass for homes, businesses, and public spaces. For more than thirty-five years we have been creating windows, glass panels, and light fixtures tailored to specific sites. Now we also offer kiln-formed glass. We love working with mouth-blown and handmade glass because of its rich beauty, and our delight in the glass is shown through innovative design and excellent fabrication in lead and copper foil techniques as well as fusing and slumping.

Whether you desire an architectural installation, accessories like a lamp or light vessel, a piece of stained glass art for your personal collection, colorful tableware, or a very special gift, we can create something original. Client needs and interests are central to our design and fabrication process. While it is advantageous to discuss a window project before new construction, we also fabricate to fit existing windows.
