Although this chair was built from a custom design as opposed to a reproduction, it contains all the elements of a well crafted Arts and Crafts piece. The details in this chair are all in the construction of the joinery and in the decorative grain. From the stretchers to the crest rail, this chair is built entirely from quartersawn bubinga. The chair was finished with an all natural linseed oil, many coats of which were hand applied and buffed down to a soft, warm finish. The slip seat was built and upholstered here in the shop; all upholstery work is done in the traditional style of horse hair and cotton cushions. For the cover of this side chair I chose waxed leather that goes nicely with the oiled bubinga.
