With a hint of contemporary style, this bureau still is built with uncompromising traditional joinery and with the most discriminating choice of lumber arranged perfectly for maximum effect. Its traditional design elements include fluted quarter columns, bracket feet splayed at 7 degrees, and moldings. The contemporary look is achieved by the unadorned drawers that are flush with the case.
Kauffman Fine Furniture
I specialize in 17th through early 19th century reproductions, but also work with clients to create original designs with traditional style. I was trained as a furniture maker in Boston and have operated Kauffman Fine Furniture for six years. I take great pride in creating each piece-from design and lumber selection to hand cut joinery to hand rubbed finish- with the finest craftsmanship, detail, and execution. I also strive to understand each client's desires and aesthetic and to incorporate that into the design. When possible, I like to meet face to face with clients to aid that process. My hope is to design and build a piece of furniture that will last several lifetimes and be an inspiration to all who see it. This is accomplished by using time tested joinery and construction methods, as well as applying a hand rubbed finish that will accentuate the beauty of the wood and invite people to touch and admire.
