William & Mary Lowboy

$5,500

This lowboy is a reproduction of a well-known original from arounf 1710-the height of the William & Mary period in America. The case is veneered with Walnut burl and the drawers and top are bordered with a herringbone inlay that I made. The drawers are outlined with a double-arch molding that I made by hand. The legs are attached to the case and feet with round tenons. The finish is a multi-step process to recreate the age and appearance of an antique.

This Maker has consistently demonstrated excellence in craftsmanship and customer service.

I specialize in 17th through early 19th century reproductions, but also work with clients to create original designs with traditional style. I was trained as a furniture maker in Boston and have operated Kauffman Fine Furniture for six years. I take great pride in creating each piece-from design and lumber selection to hand cut joinery to hand rubbed finish- with the finest craftsmanship, detail, and execution. I also strive to understand each client's desires and aesthetic and to incorporate that into the design. When possible, I like to meet face to face with clients to aid that process. My hope is to design and build a piece of furniture that will last several lifetimes and be an inspiration to all who see it. This is accomplished by using time tested joinery and construction methods, as well as applying a hand rubbed finish that will accentuate the beauty of the wood and invite people to touch and admire.
