Reclaimed Oak Mid Century Modern Inspired Chair ... Amelia
"amelia" is made from reclaimed oak carts that i pulled from the basement of an old railroad station warehouse. based on the hardware and construction of them, my somewhat educated guess dates these carts to the late 1930s or 1940s. i wanted to build this chair and matching ottoman with my own take on a mid-century modern look, to coincide with the age of the material. i also had just recently watched the movie "amelia" and took some design cues from ms. earhart's bad-@ss prop planes. ironically, i heard an npr report on the potential discovery of her plane the day i was finishing the chair so i had to name it in her honor. amelia stands 27" tall and is about 29" wide and 29" deep. the seat is 16" from the ground and leans back. the ottoman slides neatly under the seat and is 12" tall with a surface area of 19" X 12". there are scuffs, dings and holes throughout the old oak and some great green paint on the legs and armrests, but the whole thing has been sanded smooth to the touch and finished with tung oil. she is glued and screwed together six ways from sunday so she feels rock steady. i even reused some of the original carriage bolts to assist in holding the legs on. the backrest was hand planed to round out the rough edge where your back would rest. all in all she's pretty comfy for a wooden chair, but a throw pillow would certainly be appreciated by amelia's passengers. local pick up and delivery is always an option. shipping in the continental US will be via greyhound express (which means you need to pick it up at your nearest bus station). if shipping ends up costing less than the price below i will refund you. if you're out of country or in alaska or hawaii, contact me about shipping options. thanks for looking! -tim

He has outstanding analytical skills in terms of problem solving, and he is willing to try a few different options until he finds the best solution, which was important for my project as I wanted a two-sided desk. Tim has amazing carpentry skills, and is also a talented artist, needing to match up the paint and have a cohesive design between the original and the new artwork on the sides of the machine/desk. Even after the desk was completed, on time, Tim went out of his to make sure I was comfortable with the shipping arrangements due to my own previous shipping issues, even though it wasn’t Tim’s cheapest shipping option. It's the Reclaimed Barn Beam Dining Table and Tim did an amazing job of creating a table that's beautiful, functional and made our vision come to life. We knew that we wanted a tall island/dining table for our newly renovated New England kitchen. And we wanted reclaimed wood with some history. Tim was very helpful with ideas and direction, both with functional concerns (build/usage) and also creative options (wood/metal). He found some nice local heavy barn wood. The final piece was created with frequent consultation and he was always quick to return emails and send photos during the process. We even visited during its build. Honestly, it's better than we ever imagined. It's a delight to eat at this table, use it for food prep, and just hang around. And it's so strong you could park a truck on it! The table is the centerpiece of our kitchen upgrade. It was a pleasure working with Tim. He's talented, attentive ... and is a really nice guy.
