The Tacoma Narrows Concrete Bench

$1,200

The Tacoma Narrows Concrete Bench designed by EPIC Artisan Concrete. Inspired by infamous 1940 suspension bridge spanning the Tacoma Narrows strait of Puget Sound. For as long as I can recall, I have had a fascination with bridges. I have a coffee table book that is nearly as long as a bridge which holds in it the story of the catastrophic failure of what was, at the time, the third longest suspension bridge in the world. Because of aeroelastic flutter, the deck of the Tacoma Narrows bridge would pitch violently in high winds. Videos of the rhythmic torquing of the deck captivated me. It was marvelous that something so massive could shift so forcefully for so long. The Tacoma Narrows Concrete Bench captures this torque motion in a strong, ergonomic and sexy way. This bench is perfect for two people facing opposite directions, which facilitates comfortable conversation. This concrete bench measures 48.5"L x 16"W x 17"H and is shown in warm grey. This is made using glass fiber reinforced concrete which is stronger and lighter than traditionally reinforced concrete. It is durable, strong and very, very sexy.
