Old Storage Jars
In this quilt I was exploring the shapes and beauty of old Mediterranean jars, which were used to store food. I used a lot of stitching to create texture and shapes. The work has hand-dyed and painted fabric with the applique technique and cotton batting and backing.

Textile artist
As a native of Finland, where there is a long tradition in weaving, I worked as a weaving teacher after graduating from textiles and design. In spite of traditional techniques my work has always been contemporary and I believe my work has that Scandinavian style of simplicity. I started as a weaver, but I like to work with mixed textile mediums. I create hand-woven textiles, art quilts and fabric collages for interiors.
My studio is located at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell Massachusetts. The building is a historic 20th century brick mill building that has been converted to artist lofts. Open Studios occur regularly on the first Saturday of every month from noon to 5 PM for the public to visit artists.
