Stained Glass Panel - Hi'iakaikapoli'opele (Hi'iaka In The Heart Of Pele)

Stained Glass Panel - Hi'iakaikapoli'opele (Hi'iaka In The Heart Of Pele)

$1,300

The title of this piece means Hi'iaka in the Heart of Pele and refers to an ancient Hawaiian legend. Pele, goddess of fire, was preparing to journey to a new homeland and decided to bring her youngest sister, Hi'iaka, goddess of lightening, with her. Hi'iaka was dearest to Pele and during the journey was carried in the form of an egg close to Pele's heart. The legend goes on to tell of Pele's furious temper and the jealousy and rage that threatened to destroy them both. The legend ends with reconciliation and forgiveness between the two sisters before it is too late and serves as a lesson to all. The design shows Hi'iaka as an egg in the center with the profile of Pele looking to the side. The fiery sweep of Pele's hair as it twists and turns reflects her jealous passion and her inability to control it. Pele's arms of lava reach out to embrace but also to destroy her precious sister. They are red hot on the surface but cool to a deeper red as they complete the circle. The path below the center is the journey that brings them back from the brink of disaster. This piece is in a two sided koa wood frame so that it can be viewed from either side as it divides the living room from the den.

My name is Michelle Caron and I am the owner and artist at Caron Art Glass -now located in Salem, Oregon. I have been working with glass for over 25 years creating fused glass, stained glass and glass mosaic art work. My passion for glass germinated in the cathedrals of France, developed roots in Hawai`i and is now branching out in Oregon. Commissioning artwork is very rewarding. The result is a piece of art to which you have a uniquely personal connection. Your involvement in the process can range from a general idea of the design or purpose of the piece to an ongoing conversation as we develop a design that expresses your voice. Your satisfaction is always my primary goal. Finding the perfect gift is time well spent when you give a quality handmade item that brings joy to the person who receives it. In addition to commission work, I create ready-to-purchase boutique items each of which is unique. From fused glass sculptures that bring new energy into a space, fused glass table ware for that special occasion, to personal items for the office and library, or one of a kind jewelry. There is something for everyone - even those hard-to-buy-for friends and family.
