Fused Glass Table Sculpture: Hoe A Mau - Room For New Growth
"Hoe a mau," paddle together, is an important concept in Hawaii meaning to make the most of each contributor's strength. This piece explores the action of lava as it spills down the mountain into the sea, effectively creating new land. As I was working on this piece, the kiln carving of the surging lava made me think of heaving sobs from a child who is coming to terms with a new reality- growing up. The parent can only offer the space for this new growth. This piece makes a unique table sculpture that transmits and reflects the ambient light in the room. Each viewing angle offers a new vista.
