Abstract Fused Glass Table Sculpture Featuring Dichroic Glass - I `Uka, The Mountains
The rich, vibrant colors of this table sculpture are inspired by the traditional Hawaiian chant Ke Ao Nani- This Beautiful World. The verse that describes I `Uka tells of the the strength of the trees that, nourished by the gentle rainfall, grow straight and tall as the slopes of the mountains rise high. In the upper corner is a lava red square with layers of dichroic glass in orange, copper, red and gold - a reminder that our island home is volcanic. The tomato, steel blue, amber, cobalt and midnight blue colors add energy to any space. The sculpture is composed of a 6" x 6" fused glass square that is mounted in a copper frame. After meeting with us initially to better understand what we had in mind for the transom window, she prepared several artist drawings with suggested themes. Every one was a possibility that we could have been pleased with. With her talent it made it difficult to decide. We settled on one, then changed to another, and finally after incorporating elements from more than one, and with further changes and additions we finally settled on what has become a work of art in the 6' wide arched transom window above our 8' front doors. It incorporates elements of the family's heritage with a truly wonderful rondel at it's center.
