Hard Summer Led Sign
This is a high-tech, design+build LED project that we produced for Hard Events brand. It's a music festival just north of China Town in Los Angeles. The design plays hommage to the famous HOLLYWOOD sign. It was a collaboration with some of our favorite makers, who are now all in our new 7400sf creative innovation complex. The letters themselves are CNC milled plywood. There are about 260 "pixels" made up of 3 rows with 3 LED's each sandwiched between 2 pieces of laser cut, clear plexi-glass "wafers". The pixels are then screwed in place. The time consuming part of this project was the 6240 soldered contact points. Each letter has 2-3 power supplies. All of the controllers are connected via CAT5 cables to a custom made interface which is run by a PC. These are analog LED's meaning that each 'set' or letter gets the same signal or color activation sequence. The entire project was completed by a team of 6 in less than 3 weeks. We worked a few all nighters to deliver the project on time. Incorporating LED's into almost any build makes a powerful impact on the project. That's me in the last picture with two friends of mine enjoying a night of dancing in the pretty lights.
