Butcher Block Island Top
Handmade in Asheville, North Carolina by Green River Woods, Inc.
Only end grain looks this beautiful, is self-healing and keeps your good knives sharp. Unlike jagged plastic or rock-hard bamboo (grass), only wood has natural anti-microbial, self-cleaning properties, making it the most sanitary choice for any working counter surface, as recent studies have clearly proven. Why shouldn't something we use every day also be unique and beautiful? Island tops pictured are built to custom order from specialty spalted maple timber. This one measures 48" x 28" x 3" thick. Photos are just a very few examples of past orders only, and any size is possible. Please contact me directly for an accurate quote and to discuss putting down a deposit. My favored method of construction focuses on bringing out the charm and beauty of each tree, as opposed to hiding it in some generic-looking product, cheaply mass-produced. If this sounds like something that might interest you, please start a conversation to discuss your own personally-tailored, highly functional hardwood surface, in nearly any wood, foreign or domestic, and any grain construction pattern.

Green River Woods, Inc.
I specialize in custom furniture from salvaged trees, unique and heirloom quality end grain surfaces, butcher blocks, tables, and islands all sizes.
We work with responsible local arborists and sawyers to perform the modern art of urban wood salvage around the greater Asheville area, preserving large trees of a wide variety of species in beautiful slab form that would otherwise be ground up at the mulch yard and turning them into custom-designed furniture and–for lack of a more humble word–art.

Jan 10, 2017I gave this custom cutting board to my mother-in-law for Xmas. She really loved it - so much so that she wants to use it as an art piece and not use it for chopping veggies. Matt was very responsive and easy to work with. I really liked the range of work examples he has on his profile. I chose the type of wood I liked best, the size and the final product was just beautiful. I'd definitely recommend this service to anyone else who is looking for something special.
