Vintage Edwardian 1900s Hat Velvet Wide Brim Large Flowered
Vibrant wide brim hat for the races or just any place you want to make sure you get noticed. A vintage style Victorian/Edwardian hat made using traditional millinery techniques. The hat has a buckram frame with crushed velvet as the overlay in natural rust earthy tones. The band and edging is done in faille, a ribbed fabric, accented with a over sized mum flower. This hat is completely hand made by me and can be made in a large variety of colors. The wide brim measures 14 1/2" from side to side. Hat will fit most and is READY TO SHIP. I created this hat by studying a Victorian Millinery Course book dating back to 1915. The hat is made using these same traditional millinery techniques in which buckram, stretched over a vintage wooden hat block forms the shape of the crown. The crown is then wired for strength and stability. The brim is made in the same buckram fabric and is hand shaped to form the curved shape and is also reinforced with a wired edge. I have always been a maker of things. My first memory of making things was when I was a little girl. I would cut up old sheets while sitting on the living room floor and try to figure out how all the pieces could be fit together to make something. My fascination with fabric has never been far from my mind. I have always had needle and fabric in my hands. I started designing my own cloths in Jr high and never stopped, some 40 years ago.
