fancy formal Kentucky Derby hat made in sinamay a light and airy woven straw type material perfect for a summer wedding or special event. The hat can be custom made to your personal taste with choice in color and width of brim. These hats were inspired by studying a Victorian Millinery Course book dating back to 1915. These hats are made using these same traditional millinery techniques in which the sinamay, stretched over a vintage wooden hat block forms the shape of the crown. The crown is then wired for strength and stability. The brim is made by hand forming the shape while the sinamay is being steamed and is also reinforced with a wire edge. I used sinamay for the brim for a transparent summer look as the fabric will allow air to flow through. These hats make a perfect accompaniment to a vintage wedding dress or as an accessory for a Victorian-Edwardian affair, special event, garden party or tea. I can recreate this hat in a variety of colors. Contact me and I will forward instructions on measuring your head size. I have a turn around time of 5 business days.

I have always been a maker of things. My first memory of making things was when I was a little girl. I would cut up old sheets while sitting on the living room floor and try to figure out how all the pieces could be fit together to make something. My fascination with fabric has never been far from my mind. I have always had needle and fabric in my hands. I started designing my own cloths in Jr high and never stopped, some 40 years ago. I have always had a love for hats. When I discovered the internet I knew I could now make and sell my hats. I am so excited to have found CustomMade.com a place to share and grow my love of hats.
I offer custom made and ready to wear hats. Hat designs from the 1900's Victorian era past the Roaring 20's flapper days and beyond the World War II Bombshell hats. A hat shop dedicated to the fashions of the past with a connection to the styles of today.
