Edwardian vintage style wedding, bridal hat made in various shades of ivory. The crown and brim have been covered in a ivory chiffon fabric with a overall rouching in a small delicate pattern. The hat has been detailed in a draped ivory charmuse satin band and back bow. The front side hat is adorned with a delicate pale white organza applique in a floral design with pearls and sequins. The hat brim is trimmed in a pale ivory sating bias binding. I created this hat by studying a Victorian Millinery Course book dating back to 1915. The hat is made using these same traditional millinery techniques in which buckram, stretched over a vintage wooden hat block forms the shape of the crown. The crown is then wired for strength and stability. The brim is made from a straw type fabric called sinamay and is hand shaped to form a slight scalloped shape and is also reinforced with a wire edge. I used sinamay for the brim for a transparent summer look as the fabric will allow air to flow through. The crown and brim were then covered in the ruched chiffon fashion fabric which is then hand sewn into place. The wide brim measures 16" from back to front. A very delicate and feminine looking hat makes a perfect accompaniment to a vintage wedding dress or as an accessory for a Victorian-Edwardian affair, special event, garden party or tea.. I have always been a maker of things. My first memory of making things was when I was a little girl. I would cut up old sheets while sitting on the living room floor and try to figure out how all the pieces could be fit together to make something. My fascination with fabric has never been far from my mind. I have always had needle and fabric in my hands. I started designing my own cloths in Jr high and never stopped, some 40 years ago. I have always had a love for hats. When I discovered the internet I knew I could now make and sell my hats. I am so excited to have found CustomMade.com a place to share and grow my love of hats.
I offer custom made and ready to wear hats. Hat designs from the 1900's Victorian era past the Roaring 20's flapper days and beyond the World War II Bombshell hats. A hat shop dedicated to the fashions of the past with a connection to the styles of today.
