Sculpture-Monkey/Dragon Encounter
When Betsy turned to CustomMade to have a one-of-a-kind sculpture made, she was filled with hope of finding someone who could make her vision a reality. Belly Up Pub Hub was up to the challenge. She wanted an encounter between two traditional Chinese horoscope characters, a dragon (her horoscope sign) and a monkey (his horoscope sign). So to the drawing board to come up with a smaller sculpture (12" x 8" x 8") out of wood that would capture an intimate moment that could only happen in fantasy land. Betsy enjoyed the drawing and commissioned the sculpture if she could get it by Christmas. Belly Up Pub Hub fit it in to their busy Christmas schedule and delivered it in time for the Holidays. It was carved from a glued up block of poplar wood and took over 25 hours to rough carve, detail carve, and then finish with three shades of stain to bring out all the right features, before topping it off with two coats of satin polyurethane.
