Nike Of The Forest The sculpture is 38" x 30" x 12" wood, painted and natural finish. It is currently available. This carved wooden wall sculpture is a from a current theme that I have been working on. The Nike Of The Forest theme is an expression of nature's resilience to the pressures that people have put upon this earth. The figuative element in this work borrows from the Greek sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace. As a current owner of a wood lot with a pond, this then extends into the concept of one being in the role of caretaker, or steward of the wood lot. I am ejoying creating these sculpture as a series of allegories. The Sculpture is carved Hemlock, pigmented , then finished. The exposed wood grain on the figure, wings and tail are symmetrical, and mimics raptor plumage patterns The wings are lap jointed to the figure. The sculpture is made out of ten separate pieces of wood. A link to more info on my work is… https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jason-Tennant-Sculpture-Painting

Primarily I carve wooden masks and motifs of native plants and animals. I only use domestic woods, some of which I have collected myself. I have been selling my work online full time since 2008.
My intent with these works is to express a certain gesture or characteristic that I have experienced or envisioned. These works are a celebration of nature's resilience to human stresses and are my interpetation of the essence of wildness.
The main source for my inspiration is a secluded cabin off the grid, with a mile and a half long access easement in the Finger Lake region of New York State. This where I immerse myself.
I have been sculpting and painting for thirty years, have an MFA in sculpture from the University of Buffalo, and have taught art at the university and secondary levels.
I do commissions for special requests, and have other items that are not on represented. I also have work that is currently available.
My most recent exhibition was a one person show at ViewArts, formerly known as Art Center At Old Forge. This was September 2011. A large picture of it was just published in Adirondack Life Magazine July/August 2021
