Stitched Up Maple Slab Coffee Table With Black Walnut Butterflys

$700

This slab coffee table is made from salvaged maple, with hand-cut black walnut butterfly joints, and a natural edge on one side. The base is a combination of a trapezoidal block and two offset tapered legs. This table is a nod to the designs of the late furniture maker George Nakashima. I made it without the use of any power tools, as I had once again nicked my hand in the shop. The line of butterflys is intended to mimic the stitches in my hand at the time. This table measures approximately 51"L x 17"W x 16"H and has a hand-rubbed oil finish in the same style as Nakashima tables. This design can be replicated to meet your size requirements, and other variations, such as a metal base version, are available.

I specialize in reclaimed materials, healthy and environmentally friendly finishes, and run a full custom furniture shop and retail store in Oregon. I am a strong advocate of recycling in its many forms, and am proud to offer historic lumber products a second life as a work of art or furniture. I am involved with the materials I use from the very beginning, whether it be architectural salvage, or rescuing logs from pulp yards and milling them into raw lumber. From selection and processing to finished product and shipping, I am involved every step of the way. I appreciate both the process and the benefits of using salvaged materials and historical lumber to design and fabricate second-life products, while minimizing or negating resource consumption.

I can work with you from the earliest stages of design, through fabrication and delivery. Due to the age, color, grain, and source of my materials, each piece is unique and one of a kind, and is therefore customizable to the smallest detail. I pride myself in offering sustainable, responsible, and healthful solutions for your design needs.
