My name is Chris Hedges and I am the sole proprietor and designer/craftsman at AedanWorks. For me, working with wood is about more than shaping and joining pieces together to create a whole: It's about creating a tangible object that tells a story and, like all good stories, it’s a collaborative effort. Whether your needs are functional or purely aesthetic, it is my goal to work with you to bring to fruition your ideas and help you tell the story of your life and, ultimately, the story of us.
My Education
After receiving a M.A from Ohio University, I spent two years at the University of Rio Grande's Fine Woodworking program studying everything from basic cabinet making to period furniture, finishing, and carving. During my education, I learned a deep appreciation for hand work and attention to detail. As a testament to my acquired knowledge, during my second year I won top awards at the 2007 Fresh Wood student design competition for the Philadelphia secretary listed in my gallery.
For the past 10 years I have been working diligently to complete as many custom orders as possible and have expanded AedanWorks from a single room in my basement to a fully functional one man furniture studio focusing on hand crafted furniture that honors the skills of traditional craftsman.

For Computer DeskWhen I started looking for someone to build my dream desk, I had a pretty good idea of what I was looking for, but I had no prior experience with custom projects like this. Chris was able to take my initial sketches and return with a design that fixed all of the flaws I had made while retaining the functionality that I was looking for. He was able to make great suggestions that improved both the look and feel of the desk, including several quality of life items that I had not even considered. When it came time to build the piece, Chris provided pictures of each phase of the build, from the lumber selection to finished product. Better still, Chris was able to beat his estimated time by almost a full week. While the desk cost more than I had anticipated, I could not possibly be happier with the finished product. It is a beautiful, sturdy piece that I look forward to using for a very long time to come.

For Shaker Spice Box 2012Having grown up in a house full of antiques, I was impressed by the quality of Chris's workmanship. The dovetailing in particular reminded me of the skill of master cabinet makers of over two hundred years ago. It was a pleasant surprise to see what I had thought was a lost art is not lost at all. The piece he made for me is exquisite in every detail and I can't say enough of how impressed I am with his work.
