Walnut Side Table

$500

This is a solid Walnut side table I made for my wife. I found the piece of wood I used on the top at an auction. It was in a pile of very rough looking lumber. With a little patience and a little work it really is quite amazing to see what happens. The top is a piece of heavily figured crotch walnut. There was a split on the corner and that has been stabilized with a solid curly maple butterfly inlay. It also adds quite a decorative touch. The base of the table and the legs are also solid walnut and the drawer is veneered with birdseye maple for contrast and decoration. The knob on the front is turned from solid ebony. The table is finished with polyuerethane and the top is rubbed out and polished with car polish. This gives the top an almost glass like appearance and makes it VERY durable as well. This is a simple design that is modeled after shaker furniture. It could easily be spiced up with a veneered top or a contrasting wood top. If you like the style of the table but want it in different wood just let me know and we can customize the project any way you want.

I build a variety of furniture in my small shop here in Norfolk Nebraska. I like working with my customer to come up with original designs and enjoy the challenge of taking something from concept to functional artwork. No project is too big or too small. Each holds its own challenges. I enjoy working with exotic woods and veneers. They add beauty that can only be found in handmade furniture. Wood is my passion and I encourage you to ask questions as it is only in the dialogue between customer and craftsman that true art can really emerge. And… forgive the picture… I just want you to remember me!!
