Upcycled Wooden Shoebox In Barn Wood And Purpleheart
I love using purpleheart in my creations because the deep color of the wood gives a lovely burst of color to any piece I make. For this piece, I used several strips of barn wood to give it a textured look. One strip of purpleheart was all I needed to make the box "pop" with modern elegance. I assembled the wooden pieces using traditional joinery to give the piece a more rustic effect. I applied a coat of Danish oil and Minwax to the piece for a natural-looking sheen. This lovely show box measures 10" x 10" x 3".

For Bookcases3.2Frankly, I'm disappointed. I assumed Terry Stone would have used biscuit joinery. He used pocket joinery. Nothing wrong with this method if you don't see it, for example. Joining legs to a table top underneath where you don't see the pocket holes. The pocket holes are very visible from inside these cabinets. We didn't discuss this before the project was started, but he was presented as a professional cabinet maker. There are no cabinets built this way from any furniture store, even inexpensive ones. I would not use Terry again.

For Boxes for my telescope and its base.4.7Often my projects and ideas are met with skepticism or high prices. Terry is one of those rare contractors that was just as excited about my project as I was and I am truly grateful for just that alone. He got me a treasure chest that was as rustic as we could make it without ruining the quality of it, and it has triple the functionality as a desk, shelving unit and trunk. Where we struggled a bit was with the letter box for the base of the telesope. When we finally got to a compromise on it, he decided at the last minute to stain that beautifully bright cheery wood to a darker color that I didn't really care for. Now I will have to sand that back off and redo the letters. But his heart was in a good place, so all is well for me. I got what I paid for with Terry. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and patience!
